Listening and Learning: Writing Excuses 10.2

Encouragement, Personal, Personal Development, Progress Update, Writing Prompt

I’ve been working on the second homework assignment. And I wrote out a few pages of notes in my notebook to help decide what to use for it. The assignment is as follows:

Using last week’s five story ideas(or five new ones)

  • Take two of them and combine them into one story.
  • Take one and change the genre underneath it.
  • Take one and change the ages and genders of everybody you had in mind for it
  • Take the last one and have a character make the opposite choice.
Look at my lovely handwriting
If you can read this, I may have a job for you
My ideas started to be less fleshed out
Look at that hook. :-/

As I went through and combined stories, changed ideas, and moved things around I came to one solid conclusion. Idea #1 is my least favorite. And since this is for me, I did not include my first story idea into this homework assignment. Goodbye housewife story.

I actually like the fired woman turned stay at home wife/mom story idea. It’s just not an idea that excites me. I’m not ready for literary fiction and I did not like how it changed with the options for this episodes’s assignment. I have added it to my story idea list for future use.

ON TO THE HOMEWORK!

Writing Excuses 10.2: I have an idea; what do I do now?

Using last week’s five story ideas (or five new ones):

  • Take two of them and combine them into one story.
    Story 2 + 4

    • Reincarnation of evil dude Walter (I changed Vigo to Walter) is no longer safe. He may live his life as the embodiment of good, but The Oracles will not let him live on this earth much longer. The Oracles is an ancient organization that maintains a balance in the world. Since Walter’s return to earth, they have been waiting for the power shift to occur. They are getting antsy and have decided to location Walter before he can do any harm only they have no idea how to find him. After looking into all the evil in the world, they have yet to find him. So, they hire a tracker. She is rumored to be the best of the best. She had one magical talent and it is to find anyone or anything. She is being paid handsomely. When she locates Walter, she begins to question why she was sent to find this man. She begins her own research with her own sources. Now she is faced with a decision. Send a decent man to his death or face that same fate herself.
  • Take one and change the genre underneath it.
    Story 3

    • Halloween horror turns Halloween comedy. The dead just can’t’ get their man. They have lived the house for centuries and when they are contacted to create havoc and destruction on the family living in their house, they begin to think of ways to no do what they are asked. But they have to do something or their own souls will be taken away from the comfortable house they are ‘haunting’. So they begin setting traps and trying to scare the home owners. The plans are terrible and nothing works. In the end they befriend the owners and find a way out of the mess. Should be funnier.
  • Take one and change the ages and genders of everybody you had in mind for it
    Story 5

    • Old love. Tom and Julie were once young and in love. Life split them apart. Now Tom is back in town after 25 years and Julie can’t take her eyes away from him. Both single after divorces, they go on a journey of rekindling their relationship from long ago, only they have both changed. But Tom’s love for music hasn’t and he will use all the tools in his tool box to not let Julie get away again.
  • Take the last one and have a character make the opposite choice.
    Story 2

    • Story about a witch who can only do one type of spell. Tracking spells. She is the best tracker known in her area. She passes as a man in the late 1800s and uses her skill to be a bounty hunter between the west of the Appalachian and the Mississippi river. She ends up making friends with a local Native tribe trying to stay off the map for the locals, but the chief happens to be the one she’s tracking.  When she comes clean it almost tears their friendship apart. But she ruins her own reputation by claiming to not find her mark, claiming he’s dead. Somehow someone finds out she’s a girl, causes more problems, and is absorbed into the tribe. Despite the feeling she is developing for the Chief, she turns him in making herself an enemy with the tribe. Her conscience gets the better of her and she pulls out the big guns to free him from the jail. In doing so she exposes her gender secret. The part ways, but it is now the Chief’s turn to search his own feelings. Will he go back for her or let things lie?

So this is where I ended up after reviewing all the ideas I came up with using last episode’s homework. Next homework is from episode 10.4 as 10.3 is a wildcard episode. Stay tuned and follow my site. There’s a button on the left or in the drop down (I think).

I am and this post is in no way associated with Writing Excuses. I just really liked this idea and wanted to share.

I’d need to verify with you here. Which is not one thing I normally do! I get pleasure from studying a post that can make folks think. Also, thanks for allowing me to comment!
