Lucy’s Book Reviews: Wildfire Unicorn by Zoe Chant

Book Reviews

Today I want to tell you about Zoe Chant’s Wildfire Unicorn (Fire & Rescue Shifters: Wildfire Crew Book 2). I’ve read a good deal of Zoe Chant’s work. Most are hits in my option, but she does have a few misses. Her series are her best work. And I really love the Fire & Rescue Shifters series. So when she stared the spinoff series Wildfire Crew following the children from the original series I was excited. And to make things awkward, I want to tell you about book 2 of a spinoff series. So there may be a few spoilers. I’ll keep them at a minimum.

Wystan (who’s name I adore) is a unicorn shifter, that lacks the healing ability of his forefathers, is working as a hotshot wildfire firefighter. Candice is a wildlife rescue worker at the base camp of a wildfire. Animals are her first priority with no acceptions. Wystan and the Hotshot crew find an abandoned baby unicorn in the middle of a wildfire. An actual unicorn, not a shifter. Although he’s trained as a paramedic he can’t help the baby in the middle of a firefight. He takes the risk of exposure and brings it to the animal rescue trailer at the base camp where he meets Candice. With one look he knows she’s his true mate. You know, THE one. The end.

Just kidding. This couple has a number of hurdles to overcome before they can even attempt to come together. But this book isn’t all love trouble or trust issues. While these two are playing relationship chess, they also have to help the rest of the hotshot crew battle darkness. A demon is processing animals (which I think is supposed to be modeled after a skinwalker), which – SPOILERS – is the same type of evil they met in the first book. They are also navigating the overbearing presence of a Thunderbird whose mission appears to be to take out the demons with fire.

Chant does an excellent job of creating diverse interesting characters. Getting to know the hotshot crew is truly a pleasure. What I love the most about this book is how she is expanding the universe. Stepping into the American mythologies is an interesting choice that I look forward to seeing her explore. She is also opening the paranormal world to more than just shifters which is enchanting. Chant has succeeded with this one. It is highly entertaining. I look forward to the rest of the books in this series and meeting the mates of the rest of the crew.

Sexy Romance Rating:

Chant never fails to give the reader a sexy display. While this one is a light on the explicit material, the tension, the steamy kisses, and the sex reveal are a solid 3 flames. I’d give more, but I’ve seen Chant give more steamy scenes, oh so much more. So check out some of her other books for steamier content. 🔥🔥🔥

Overall Rating:

This book had everything I want in a paranormal romance. Between the action, emotional conflict, world expansion, sexual tension, and hot sex scene I give this book 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
