Pitch Black by Elise Noble follows the character Diamond (a nickname) as she runs away from everything she knows to keep those closest to her safe. Diamond co-owns a high-end security firm. The kind that not only installs security systems but also acts as bodyguards and runs high-end investigations. She has traveled the world, knows how to disguise herself, and is at the top of her game. Tragedy strikes which leads her to the small town in England, leaving everything and everyone behind. Here she takes on the identity of Ashlyn. But life has a way of catching up with you and sometimes your past is exactly what you need to take hold of your present.
This romantic thriller really keeps you guessing. Diamond’s backstory unfolds throughout the entire novel. The novel is constantly moving, the story pushing forward as the main character deals with her present while hiding from her past. I love how Noble gets into the mind of Diamond. I really felt the devastation and helplessness that she felt. Noble presents you with a broken person. You get to know her as Ashlyn and you watch as she grows to become Diamond once more.
Pitch Black was a smooth read. The character’s intensity and story hook drew me in before I was even sure of the character’s name. I’m still not quite sure what her real name is after reading the book. As Diamond constantly takes on new identities for her job, I believe this is done on purpose. The novel leaves enough questions to get you excited for the second book in her Blackwood Security Series.
Romance Rating:
Pitch Black had a small sex scene. It was well written and the tension leading up to it paid off. I didn’t need to bring out the big fans for the romantic portions so I give this book 2/5 flames. 🔥🔥
Overall Rating:
Overall, I give this book 5/5 stars for the smooth transitions, character development, and it’s the ability to keep my attention. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐½
I loved the flow, the story, and will definitely read the second in the series.
